BRAZOS COUNTY ALIEN LAND REGISTRATIONS, 1922

In 1921 Texas passed a law requiring aliens who owned land in Texas to register
at the county court house.  Although aliens were generally prohibited from
owning real estate, many had nonetheless acquired land.  These records provide
information on immigrants which may not appear in other sources.


The records indicate that the information was originally filed at the court
house, and then later copied into the record book.  Thus, errors may have been
occurred during that process.


p.2.  Martin BERKA, aged 64; about 5 ft. high; weight 130 lbs.; left leg been
broken and shorter than right; complexion dark; face wrinkled; hair black, with
sprinkling of gray; eyes black; mustache black and gray; place of birth Velenov,
Moravia, Austria-Hungary (now Czechoslovakia); arried in U.S. 23 Nov. 1899 at
Galveston; present address Rosprim; lived 23 years in Brazos Co.; owns 53 acres
of land in Brazos Co. which he bought from Fred ROSPRIM and his wife on 3 Dec.
1913.  Statement given 8 Dec. 1922.  [Martin BERKA is not listed in Index to
Passenger Lists of Vessels Arriving at Galveston Texas, 1896-1906).  The
Galveston Daily News of 24 Nov. 1899 (p.8) has the following note:  "The
following is the passenger list of the North German Lloyd steamship Ellen
Rickmers, due about November 27 ... Martin BERKA and family, Bryan."  The
Galveston Daily News of 25 Nov. 1899 (p.5) notes that the ship arrived on Nov.
24.]


p.3. Fritz PLAGENS, aged 64; 5 ft. 4 inches high; hair light; eyes blue; place
of birth Posen, Germany; arrived in U.S. on 5 Apr. 1875 at Baltimore, Md.;
present address Kurten; lived in Tx. 42 years; owns 300 acres of land in Brazos
Co. which he bought from KURTEN & KOPPE.  Statement given 30 Dec. 1922.


p.4. John FAZZINO, aged 37; occupation farmer; 5 ft. 5 inches high; weight 140
lbs.; complexion brunette; black hair; broad chin; black eyes; place of birth
Poggiorelae, Provincia Trapani, Italy; arrived in New Orleans 1910 or 1911;
lived in U.S. 12 years; lived in Texas 12 years; present address Steele's Store;
owns 71.6 acres of land in Brazos Co. which he bought from Antonio SALVAGGIO et
al. on 22 July 1922.  Statement given 30 Dec. 1922.


p.5. Mary BORECKY, aged 53; occupation farming; 5 ft. 8 inches high; blonde
complexion; gray hair; blue eyes; born Moravia, Austria; last foreign residence
was Zdanice, Moravia, Hungary; arrived in New York on 19 Aug. 1891; lived in
U.S. 31 years; lived in Tx. 31 years; owns 100.4 acres of land in Brazos Co.,
which she inherited from her husband and which he had purchased from J.V.
BROGDON on 30 June 1908.  Statement given 21 Dec. 1922.


p.6. Lawrence KOMOR, aged 37; 5 ft. 8 inches high; dark complexion; dark hair;
dark brown eyes; born in Austria? Hungary; arrived in Galveston about 1890;
present address Kurten; lived in Brazos Co. about 32 years; owns 185 acres of
land in Brazos Co. which he purchased from Nicholas KAMAR et al., on 25 Feb.
1919.  Statement given 19 Dec. 1922.


p.7. Joseph MALY, aged 55; 5 ft. 3 inches high; light complexion; slightly gray
hair and black; eyes gray; no mustach or beard; place of birth Lutoina (town),
Vixovoice, Moravia, Europe; arrived Galveston on 21 June 1921 [date should be
1912]; present address Bryan; lived in Brazos Co. for 10 years; owned 100 acres
and a tract of 10 acres in Brazos Co. which he purchased from Joseph DUJESKY &
his wife Helen DUJESKY on 24 Apr. 1919.  Statement given 15 Dec. 1922.  [Josef
MALY, aged 44, citizen of Austria, arrived on the steamer Hanover of the N.G.
Lloyd line, at Galveston on 21 June 1912; also on board that ship were Anna
(36), Anna (16), and Franziska 9) MALY ?? Index to Passenger Lists of Vessels
Arriving at Galveston Texas, 1896?1906)].


p.8. Frank PRAZAK, aged 74; 5 ft. 4 inches high; dark complexion; hair white;
eyes gray; mustache gray and drooping; face wrinkled and nose pug; carries age
well; place of birth Neusette, Austria-Hungary, now Czecho-Slovakia; arrived in
U.S. at New York on 3 May 1880; present address Bryan; lived in Brazos Co. for
40 years; owns 75 acres of land purchased from J.V. ROSPRIM & wife on 28 Nov.
1900.  Statement given 8 Dec. 1922.


p.10. Mary REGMUND, aged 70; occupation farming; widow of Frank REGMUND; 5 ft.
tall; gray hair; gray eyes; weight 115 lbs.; face wrinkled; crippled;
birthplace, Luck, Bohemia; arrived at New York harbor 19 Mar. 1883; present
address Bryan; owned 134.5 acres of land, sold to Frank REGMUND by Milton PARKER
on 14 Nov. 1891.  Statement given 14 Dec. 1922.


p.11. Julia KALINEC, aged 50; eyes brown; place of birth Austria-Hungary;
arrived in 1869 at Galveston; present address Bryan; owned 135 acres of land
purchased from L.L. McINNIS on 6 Oct. 1910
